Approval regulations of compressed air horns and compressor fanfares:
If sound horns are used as an additional signaling device, they do not have to be approved or registered. They must be installed in such a way that general safety regulations are not violated (risk of injury by accident). For example, installation at a height of more than 2 meters is unobjectionable, as well as below the bumper or under the hood of the vehicle.
Excerpt from the German Road Traffic Licensing Regulations (StVZO)
§ 55 Devices for acoustic signals
(1) Motor vehicles shall have at least one audible warning device, the sound of which shall alert vulnerable road users to the approach of a motor vehicle without startling them and causing more than unavoidable annoyance to others. Where more than one audible warning device is installed, it must be
be ensured that only one device can be actuated at a time. Switching to one or the other device shall not permit the emission of a sequence of sounds of different fundamental frequencies.
(2) Horns and horns that produce a sound with constant fundamental frequencies (including harmonic chords) that is free of extraneous noise may be installed as devices for sound signals. The sound level shall not exceed 105 dB(A) at any point 7 m from the location of the sound source on the vehicle and at a height range of 500 mm to 1 500 mm above the roadway. Measurements shall be made in an open space with as smooth a surface as possible, in the absence of wind; obstacles (trees, bushes, etc.) that may interfere by reverberation or attenuation shall be at least twice as far away from the sound source as the sound receiver.
